Mentha × piperita is the species employed for New Roots Herbal’s 100% pure peppermint oil, which includes menthol, its primary active constituent.
Menthol has been shown to increase alertness and enhance memory for those days when you need a little extra focus and productivity. In addition to helping with cognitive function, it can also benefit other ailments of the head like tension headaches. In a placebo-controlled, double-blind crossover study, applying peppermint oil topically to the temples and forehead 15–30 minutes after the onset of a headache has been shown to provide symptomatic relief.
If you are suffering from nausea and vomiting, peppermint oil may be the healing remedy you need. Mentha × piperita has antiemetic and antispasmodic actions in the body. There have been studies looking at its efficacy in morning sickness from pregnancy, chemotherapy‑induced nausea, and postoperative nausea; all have shown a benefit from peppermint use.
